George Mason's three campuses -- Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William -- are located in Northern Virginia, the East Coast's hotbed of information technology, with firms like AOL, Oracle and DynCorp. Our location provides internships and cooperative education opportunities superior to those found elsewhere. Our campuses are just an average of 15 miles from the heart of Washington, D.C. You can easily visit the White House, tour the Smithsonian, cheer on the Redskins, grab a bite to eat in eclectic Adams Morgan and bike along the C&O Canal. Fairfax County has over 900,000 residents. It is the most populous county in Virginia and one of the wealthiest areas in the United States. The District of Columbia has 500,000 residents, giving the Fairfax-D.C. corridor 1.4 million residents. George Mason University is in easy driving distance of three major airports, Dulles International Airport (15 miles), Reagan National Airport (20 miles) and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (40 miles). The area provides several options in top-level professional and collegiate sports. Washington alone offers the Redskins of the NFL, the Wizards of the NBA, the Mystics of the WNBA, the Capitals of the NHL, D.C. United of MLS and the Washington Freedom of the WUSA. The Baltimore Orioles of MLB and the Ravens of the NFL are also nearby, approximately one hour away. The MCI Center in Washington and the Patriot Center on the George Mason campus offer two top-flight entertainment venues for area residents. |
