Noreiga Earned All-South Atlantic First Team Honors

Dec. 16, 2005

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University senior defender Anthony Noreiga (San Fernando, Trinidad) tallied another honor as he was named to the 2005 All-South Atlantic First Team as announced by the NSCAA. Noreiga is one of 12 Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer players that were selected to a pair of All-Region teams.

Noreiga was tabbed as the 2005 CAA Defender of the Year after he anchored a Patriot defense that recorded five shutouts during the season, including four in conference play. Mason limited seven of the 11 conference foes to one goal or less. A three-year starter, Noreiga scored his fourth career goal and his lone goal of the 2005 campaign in Mason's season-opening 3-2 win at Liberty (Sept. 2). A member of the U23 Trinidadian National Team, Noreiga was named to the adidas/Brown Classic All-Tournament Team on Sept. 11 in Providence, R.I. and this marks Noreiga's first postseason conference honor in his three-year career at Mason.

In addition, Noreiga has been invited to participate in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine Jan. 12-15, 2006 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Earning first-team All-South Atlantic region honors among the conference were Old Dominion senior forward Brian Cvilikas, James Madison junior midfielder Kurt Morsink, Old Dominion senior defender Trevor McEachron and Noreiga. Named to the All-New York region squad were Hofstra senior forward Michael Todd and Pride sophomore midfielder Chris Cox.

Representing the CAA in the All-South Atlantic second team were Towson junior forward Sebastian Hanesel, Old Dominion junior forward Edson Elcock and VCU senior defender Veit Schaidinger. Named to the third team was UNC Wilmington senior forward Sam Leger. Earning spots on the All-New York second team were Hofstra junior midfielder Constantinos Christoudias and junior defender Gary Flood.
