Pachella Reaches Olympic Trials `B' Qualifier in Indianapolis

June 16, 2008

Results

INDIANAPOLIS - George Mason sophomore Michael Pachella's performance at the American Milers Club's 2008 High Performance Track & Field Series this past weekend put his name among the nation's best, as the Ogdensburg, N.J., native met the Olympic Trials 'B' qualifying standard with a time of 1:48.31 in the 800-meter run.

Pachella set a new personal record at the meet, held at IUPUI's Michael A. Carroll Track Stadium, by finishing under the qualifier in 1:48.31. He eclipsed his previous career mark of 1:48.69 which was set at the Seminole Twilight Meet in Tallahasse, Fla., in May.

The Colonial Athletic Association champion in the event, Pachella will now wait to see if he will earn one of the spots in the Olympic Trials, which are being held June 27 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

He is one of two Patriots to meet the `B' standard, as Mason senior Ryan McCoy reached the provisional standard as well.

McCoy, a native of Roanoke, Va., met the mark with his 15.92-meter distance in the triple jump at the NCAA East Regional Championships in Tallahassee on May 31. The triple jump Olympic Trials are scheduled to begin on July 3.
