Pat Kendrick Position: Head Coach Experience: 24th Season

Pat Kendrick, who has been a part of the George Mason athletic program since her playing career in the late 1970s, is entering her 24th season as head coach of the Patriot women's volleyball team.

During her three-decade career as the sideline leader for Mason women's volleyball, Kendrick has guided the Patriots to seven Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships [1992-96 and 2002-03] and six NCAA Tournament appearances [1993-96 and 2002-03]. Kendrick was awarded her seventh CAA Coach of the Year accolade in 2002, as well as her fifth Virginia (VaSID) Coach of the Year honor. She was also acknowledged as the league's top coach in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2001, and the state's coach of the year from 1993-96.

Kendrick, who notched her 300th career win on Nov. 10, 2000, has compiled a career record of 396-319 (.554), all at George Mason. She joins two other Patriot head coaches to break the 300-win plateau, and is the most successful women's volleyball coach in Mason history. Additionally, Kendrick is the longest-tenured women's volleyball coach in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Following a two-year absence, the Patriots marked a return to the CAA Tournament in 2007, as Mason finished sixth with a 7-7 record in conference play (14-13 overall). It was Kendrick's 14th winning season and 23rd time taking a Mason team to the conference tournament. She has tallied seven 20-win seasons in her previous 23 years of coaching. In the offseason, Kendrick was named to the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Rules Committee, where she will serve a four-year term.

Along with the overall success of the program, Kendrick also has a knack for developing strong individual players. She has coached five student-athletes to a total of nine CAA Player of the Year awards, including Aline Pereira, who departed the program after 2003 having won the award three straight times. Kendrick has also coached six CAA Rookie of the Year honorees, including four in the past eight seasons. This past year, Mason numbered three players to be recognized by the CAA, as Jaqueline Kohler and Rebecca Walter were named Second-Team All-CAA while Fernanda Bartels was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Kendrick also devotes her coaching efforts to youth teams and camps at the local, national and international levels.

She holds numerous clinics throughout the Washington, D.C.-area, heads the Pat Kendrick Sports Network Camp and Patriot Volleyball Camp during the summer and continues to play on local recreation and USA Volleyball teams. During the summer of 2005 and 2006, Kendrick hosted and coached a USA Youth Development Camp at George Mason.

During the summer of 1998 she was the head of a delegation for the 17-and-under women's USA Volleyball Youth National Team, which trained in Lake Placid, N.Y., and played in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, where it won the NORCECA Zone Championships and qualified for the World Championships.

In 1997, Kendrick was an assistant coach for the 14-and-under High Performance Camp as well as an assistant coach for the 17-and-under women's Youth Junior National Team that trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and then competed in Brazil.

She also serves as a "cadre," or instructor, for the Coaches Accreditation Program sponsored by USA Volleyball.

In 1994, Kendrick was an assistant coach with the U.S. National "A2" team and she was the head coach at the 1992 Women's Junior Elite Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. She served as an assistant coach at the Junior Elite Camp in 1988.

In 1993 she was the head coach of the East team at the U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio, where she guided her squad to the silver medal. As an assistant coach, Kendrick helped lead the South to a gold medal at the 1991 Festival in Los Angeles and the East to a silver medal at the 1989 Festival in Norman, Okla. Kendrick is also actively involved in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), serving on the association's All-East Region Selection Committee and holding a voting position on the USA Today/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll.

A native and resident of Lorton, Va., and a graduate of nearby Hayfield Secondary School, Kendrick graduated from George Mason in 1982 with a B.S. degree in decision sciences.

A two-sport Patriot star, she was one of the top players on the women's volleyball team as well as the University's first conference champion in track and field, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 1979. Kendrick was inducted into the George Mason Women's Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1989.

After graduating from Mason, Kendrick was named an assistant coach with the women's volleyball team and served in that capacity for two years before assuming the top position in 1985, becoming the fifth head coach in the history of the program.
